Sony Pushes ‘Legend of Zelda’ Live-Action Movie to May 2027 Release (3)

Sony has delayed the theatrical release of its live-action video game adaptation Legend of Zelda to May 7, 2027.

The nudge from the earlier March 26, 2027 released date appears to be for production reasons. Sony is distributing the film that hails from Nintendo andAvi Arad‘s Arad Productions. Nintendo representative director and fellow Shigeru Miyamoto produces the feature alongside Arad.

Miyamoto on Monday took to Twitter to explain the film needed a few more weeks in the hothouse to complete. “This is Miyamoto. For production reasons, we are changing the release date of the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda to May 7, 2027. It will be some weeks later than the release timing we originally announced, and we will take the extra time to make the film as good as it,” he explained.

Wes Ball, who helmed last year’sKingdom of the Planet of the Apes, is directing the feature, which adapts the Nintendo gaming franchise of the same name that launched in 1986. The fantasy-inspired game series centers on the young Link and Princess Zelda, who attempt to save the kingdom of Hyrule from the evil Ganon.

Zeldawas to have competed against Warner Bros. and Legendary’s next film in theGodzilla x Kongfranchise that also hits theaters on March 26, 2027. Additionally, Paramount’s fourth film in itsSonic the Hedgehog franchise that adapts the video game series of the same name isset for theatrical releasethe week prior.
